First Imperssions

It's been a long time since I accompanied my husband (one of the floor sander team at Nufloors) on a job as the general helping hand. A bit short on the ground with one man down provided an opportunity to pick up tools and assist one of the best in the business. (perhaps a bit of bias here).
The location in the middle of St Heliers revealed a quaint little cottage with country gardens and a newly modernised interior with white walls and marble/slate kitchen.
A welcoming appeal but walking through the entrance if was definitely to floor that held the heart of the home. And by heart I mean heart rimu. When sanded it blends and appears barren like any other floor (other than the sap that still rises during the sanding), but when the first coat goes on the transformation occurs. With the touch of the polish, the most deep, golden lustre I have every seen appears and it spreads as the coating continues.

Now like I said its been a many a years since I have assisted the floor sander in the family but as I slid along the sanded floor scrapping the corners and used the orbital to sand the bull nosing between the ceramic tiles and the floor I couldn't help but feel the sense of pride and achievements as the coating continued to reveal what an excellent contribution I had made to this job.

Now there is a downfall I have to comment about and anyone who gets their floor done is advised pre-coating. The smell of the polish, although it is nowhere near the toxicity of the products used over 10 years ago, there is still what I could only describe as 2 litres of nail polish opened at once wafting through the air. Despite this the finished product is worth the sacrifice with a doubt. Overall, an excellent day with the hubby, I left feeling in awe of the beauty of the floor with still two coats yet to complete I am sure the finished product will not be a disappointment to the customer. Oh yeah got shouted dinner for my excellent labouring assistance.
